Zoe Wood

Growing up in inner Sydney, the time I spent in the country and at the coast on holidays with my family became highly valuable to me. I developed a deep appreciation for the natural environment.

My love for the outdoors led me to become an instructor of pursuits such as hiking, paddling and climbing. I studied Outdoor Recreation in southern Sydney before moving to the UK to work in the recreation industry. During this time I decided I wanted to teach people about the environments they were visiting so that they could value it as more than just a recreational resource.

This desire prompted me to continue my education at La Trobe University in central Victoria. I undertook a Degree in Outdoor Education which focussed on facilitating experiences that highlight the range of values that the natural environment has. During my degree I developed a strong interest in natural resource management, in particular catchment management, and thus I tailored my degree to focus on these areas.

I’ve since been employed in the environmental industry with Greening Australia, providing support to team members, team leaders, partner agencies and delivery agencies involved in the Australian Governments Green Corps projects in NSW and the ACT.

My desire to move into broader catchment management activities has led me to join the Molonglo Catchment Group as their coordinator. I’m glad to be a part of the NRM facilitators’ network operating in the Molonglo and ACT regions. I’m excited about engaging with, assisting and learning from the many community members who hold such an amazing wealth of knowledge about the land on which they live and I look forward to facilitating positive change in the way we manage our natural resources.
