Training & Work Experience in Conservation (Green Jobs Corps) Conservation Volunteers Australia is conducting National Green Jobs Corps Projects in Queensland, New South Wales, ACT and Tasmania.

This program is for 17 to 24 year old people looking for a pathway to employment.
If you are not in this age group, but you know someone who would be interested, please pass this information on.

In participating in this program:

  • You are in regular contact with potential employers from a variety of organisations, including the emerging green and climate-change related industries.
  • You will gain improved career and employment prospects through:
    • practical work experience
    • accredited training
    • proven work ethic
  • You will receive up to 30 hours of Work Preparation with a view to improving your employment prospects.
  • You will gain personal development, including team work and leadership skills.
  • You will acquire further skills through structured activities that are sequential in their learning outcomes.
  • Your participation will be in activities that are conservation focused to protect and rejuvenate Australia's natural environment and restore our cultural heritage.

Education Explainer – Level 3 - $29.88ph (this includes a 20% casual loading)

The Australian National Botanic Gardens are seeking energetic and highly motivated presenters to join the team of Education Explainers including Twilight Guides at the Australian National Botanic Gardens. Education Explainers are responsible for the successful co-ordination and delivery of daytime and evening school programs at the Gardens. To be successful in this position, you will:

  • have an interest in Australian plants, animals and the natural environment;
  • have excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • have the ability to interact effectively with a broad range of people, particularly school students;
  • and be organised and flexible and work effectively as a team member.

Successful applicants will be offered work on a casual basis including weekends, public holidays, and after hours work. Shift penalties apply. Suitably qualified applicants are encouraged to apply even if you have limited availability; a 2 hour minimum shift is required.

Nursery Manager Billabong Aboriginal Development Corporation

The responsibilities for this position will include:

  • Operation of the nursery and leadership of the nursery team of volunteers.
  • Sales, marketing and business planning
  • Coordination and direction of native seedling nursery production, orders and dispatch.
  • Financial and budget control and reporting
  • Staff training (including volunteers)

Essential criteria include a desire to grow and expand our nursery operations with demonstrated experience in:

  • Knowledge of the plants of ACT and surrounding areas, seed collection, storage and propagation of native plants.
  • Production nursery (particular native and provenance seedlings)
  • Managing staff in a wholesale nursery environment
  • Implementing and monitoring KPI's
  • Generating new sales and creating lasting relationships with clients
  • Nursery irrigation and maintenance systems to produce field ready seedlings
  • Pest/disease monitoring and working with IPM principles

Desirable criteria:

  • Demonstrated ability to increase business profile in the industry
  • Nursery resource procurement on a limited budget
  • Understanding and experience in working for an indigenous organisation and working with support organisations
  • Demonstrated experience working with Outlook, Word and Excel
