Weeds
Other weeds were also noted as part of the survey because where willows are
controlled more light reaches the ground allowing the establishment of other
plants. It has been found that where willows have been controlled along the
Molonglo River and other areas that Blackberry infestations have become
established.

Recommendation 16:
|
Blackberry needs to be controlled in conjunction with willow control
and any budget estimation needs to take this into account. Potentially
it could result in a significant and ongoing additional cost to the
willow control itself. |

| Blackberry and other
weeds need to be managed in conjunction with willow control |
While outside the scope of this Plan, the Black Alder population deserves a
particular mention due to its high densities in some areas of the Lake. If
willows are to be controlled along reaches with significant Alder infestations,
it is likely that these will simply recolonise the site.
|
Recommendation 17:
|
Black Alder control needs to be considered in conjunction with
willow control as a secondary coloniser. |
