All you need is a still camera, computer and some music or a sound recorder such as an MP3. The Molonglo Catchment Group uses Placestories regularly. Some of our stories can be viewed on our website and we would love to add some of your Placestories too!

The workshop on Thursday 19 April 2012, 9am - 3pm, will show you how to use the program in a practical and easy to follow session.

Rabbit Control in the Molonglo Catchment

The rabbit control projects organised by Royalla Landcare and Carwoola Landcare last year appear to have been successful, with reports from many landholders that the rabbit numbers are well down, and some even finding many carcasses.

The Rabbit Control Program will involve a workshop for assessing rabbit numbers, training in calicivirus baiting techniques and assistance and follow up. The workshop will be run by Phil McGrath, from the South East LHPA, and centres around baiting using calicivirus and carrots. Unlike with the use of poisons such as Pindone, calicivirus WILL NOT affect other animals or humans – only rabbits.

Three workshops are being held:

Saturday 14th April, 1-3pm at Carwoola Community Hall, Gathering Place (off Douglas Close) Carwoola;

Sunday 15th April, 1 -3pm at Jerrabomberra Creek Rural Fire Service shed, 1722 Old Cooma Rd, Royalla (2km from Monaro Hwy towards Queanbeyan)

Saturday 21st April, 1-3pm at Burra Community Hall, Burra Road, Burra.

While eight of the Molonglo Catchment sub-catchments were in the ‘Good’ range in the first half of 2011, many of them scored at the high end and so indicated a creep in catchment health towards ‘Moderate’. This may well be explained by the combined effects of flood recovery phenomena and the sudden return, at the end of March, to unseasonably warm and dry weather, a condition that persisted into the winter months.
»Read more
